Metall war f\u00fcr die Ureinwohner auf La Palma ein v\u00f6llig unbekanntes Material. Es wurde von den Konquistadoren auf die Insel gebracht und diente haupts\u00e4chlich der Landwirtschaft, Viehzucht und Fischerei. Aus diesem Grund wurde das Schmieden alsbald sehr wichtig, so dass es nunmehr selten eine Stadt gab, die kein eigenes Eisen besa\u00df. Heute liegt diese Art von Arbeit aufgrund der Entwicklung der Technologie und des Imports von Massenprodukten haupts\u00e4chlich in den H\u00e4nden einiger weniger Kunsthandwerker und Kunsthandwerkerinnen.<\/p>\n

\nAus dem Metall wurden Sicheln, Glocken, Asthaken, Macheten, Messer, Schl\u00fcssel, Schl\u00f6sser, Bolzen, Speerspitzen, Vorh\u00e4ngeschl\u00f6sser usw. hergestellt. Ein weiteres Werkzeug, das in der traditionellen Schmiede auf La Palma verwendet wurde, sind die Kr\u00fcge, mit denen Wasser aus dem Tonbecken gesch\u00f6pft wurde. Sie wurden mit einem Ausgie\u00dfer verschlossen, damit aus ihnen nicht direkt getrunken werden konnte.<\/p>\n

\nUnter dem Namen „calabazo“ ist ein Beh\u00e4lter bekannt, der zun\u00e4chst aus einem gro\u00dfen, trockenen K\u00fcrbis hergestellt wurde und der dazu diente, das Wasser mithilfe der Armkraft der Bauern auf ein h\u00f6heres Niveau des Kanals zu heben, in dem es floss.

Laternen, Windlichter, Schwefellampen, K\u00e4semacher, K\u00e4seglocken und Kuchenformen, allesamt aus Zinn, werden auf der Insel noch immer hergestellt, obwohl die meisten von ihnen ihre urspr\u00fcngliche Funktion nicht mehr erf\u00fcllen.<\/p>\n
